The Green Room…

Anyone looking for an awesome dance school for their little ones? I just started work at The Green Room in Malaga and my super savvy boss now runs a Mummy Yoga class parallel to the Tiny Tots dance class on Saturday mornings! If I wasn’t working there I’d sure be taking advantage, so if I can’t maybe one of you can? A Word from FIFOBoy…

Lately, FIFOBoy has been waking up at night worried about ghosts. Weirdly, this all started with a Thomas The Tank Engine episode based around Halloween. Although the episode ends with the trains declaring ‘ghosts are not real’ FIFOBoy didn’t get the memo.

Last night, I tried discussing ghosts with him to alleviate his worries (this being the third night he has woken this way). The outcome was hilarious! Fingers crossed its behind us now, after a jolly good laugh together…

Me: Honey, what do you think ghosts are?
FIFOBoy: Ghosts are people from England and they are the colours of what their dead parts are.

Insert silly laughter here. LOL!

Australia Day 2015 – Cheesymite Scrolls

For some strange reason, FIFODad has missed every Australia Day since he started working away. And rather than traipse into town with the littlies (who are far to little if you ask me) for the Sky Show, we try to get our ‘Aussie’ on at home.

Today was slip and slides in the backyard, Hottest 100 on the radio,homemade Cheesymite Scrolls for lunch, a sausage sizzle for dinner and Passionfruit Jelly Icey Poles for dessert. And the iceypoles were even easier – make up jelly as normal and pour into iceypole containers. Add a dash of cream before inserting sticks and pop them in the freezer until set. Hardly a health conscious recipe but fun and easy sometimes food for the lads.

We rounded the evening off in patriotic style with a blue dyed bath (food colouring) and two very tired midgets.

Hope your Australia Day celebrations hit the spot. Sending my love out to all the FIFO Mammas at home on their own tonight and to the FIFO Dads stuck at work. If you’re at the Sky Show, enjoy it for me – it might be a few years before I get down there again!!

FIFOBoy: No!

Me: For hitting your brother and being rude to me.

FIFOBoy (airquotes): I don’t care.

Me (airquotes): Where did you lean this?

FIFOBoy (air quotes): Saturday Disney!

Me (airquotes): Well, you’re doing it wrong!

The Bindoon Bakehaus

The whole FIFOClan took a trip to the Bindoon Bakehaus last weekend – and we loved it!! I was delighted to be able to write a review for my favourite kid friendly park/restaurant review site BuggyBuddys which you can find by following the link below. This site is a fantastic resource that we often consult when seeking a venue and recommend to other Perth parents (even tourists)!

Brussel Sprouts & Bacon

Brussel sprouts are part of the brassica family and are high in vitamins and minerals. I know what you’re thinking… I sound like your mother, right? I probably do. But… I have a weird obsession with these tiny cabbage copies and want to share one of my favourite recipes with you.

This is so simple its silly and is so easy to vary. Today its brussels, garlic and bacon. You can add chilli. You could finish with sour cream. Or drop the bacon and substitute sesame seeds and a drop if tamari (or soy). You can make it as a side dish or do what I do and eat it on its own. Whatever suits you best – you have to try it! I love these little guys and would ❤️ to see them become a staple in more homes like mine.

Brussel sprouts (half a doz sliced in half)
2 cloves garlic, sliced
2 strips of bacon, sliced (or a finger width of streaky bacon cut into lardons)
Dash of olive oil
Salt & Pepper to taste


1. Steam brussels lightly until slightly tender. Remove from heat and set aside.
2. Place olive oil and bacon into a pan to brown.
3. When ready to turn, add garlic and fry.
4. Once browned add the brussels and cook briefly on round side before turning. Cook on flat side until caramelized. Remove from pan and serve.
